This large landfill closure took place along the new South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR) alignment as the new highway cut through five existing DLC landfills and created a new landfill adjacent to the alignment. Due to perceived risk by the design-build concessionaires, MOTI agreed to undertake landfill closures and preparation of the highway subgrade for the road segment from Quantum Landfill to Alpha Landfill. In late 2010 it became clear that the closure works were seriously behind schedule. SHA was asked by MOTI to take over engineering services for the project mid-stream. SHA has worked intensively to redesign the construction works and oversee construction. With innovations introduced by SHA, overall project costs have been reduced by more than $1 million on a $16 million construction budget.
