Mircea Cvaci, E.I.T- Sr. Environmental Engineer

Mr. Cvaci was trained as an Environmental and Civil Engineer in Romania and gained his professional experience working in Romania and Canada. He brings with him over 9 years of experience working on various engineering projects, from civil to environmental, with budgets ranging from $100,000 to $12.2 million.

While Mr. Cvaci was studying for his Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental and Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Construction in Bucharest, he started working as a Technician at Zublin Engineering, the largest German Engineering company .He designed technical plans based on architectural drawings for projects like the Odeon Theatre and local high rises. He then proceeded to work for Metroul, Romania’s National Designing and Planning Company as a Junior Engineer. In this role, he conducted concrete testing, calculated and designed wood, steel, and concrete structures, and produced plans and reports. He also participated in designing a pipeline system, sewage system, and waste water treatment plant for the City. He also became proficient in preparing feasibility studies and technical specifications for surface, and underground construction works.

Shortly after Mr. Cvaci’s graduation, he was hired by AST – Baugesellschaft mbH, one of the leading construction companies in Central and Eastern Europe, as a Project Engineer. Here, he led teams ranging from 40-100 staff to construct a BMW Showroom in Bucharest, to restore a 300 year old church in the heart of the city, and to develop extensions to a municipal hospital. He was instrumental in the research, design and the coordination of subcontractors, the budget, the overseeing of staff, and the communication with clients.

When Mr. Cvaci moved to Canada in the summer of 2006, he was hired by Scott Canada as a Project Engineer. With Scott he oversaw the construction of an $8 million dollar high-rise apartment at UBC. His day-to-day activities included keeping detailed notes of all site activities, maintaining construction schedules, keeping the team on track and on budget, selecting and managing subcontractors , preparing engineering and technical reports and drawings, and more. After the project was over, Mr. Cvaci wanted to return to Environmental Engineering and so assumed a position with ECOfluid, a provider of advanced biological wastewater treatment technology.

At ECOfluid, Mr. Cvaci spearheaded many projects, including the design and construction of several waste water treatment plants. The projects were scattered all over British Columbia: in Naramata, the District of Taylor, Sun Peaks Resort, Millsprings, and Brew Creek. He was heavily involved in the projects from the proposal to the design phase, to the coordination of suppliers, deliveries, and purchase orders, and finally, to the construction and startup of the plant. He traveled frequently to the sites for inspections. He also had the responsibility to supervise his team to ensure plans were executed on a time and on budget.

Mr. Cvaci joined Sperling Hansen Associates (SHA) in early 2009. Since his commencement, he has worked on several landfill projects, including 7 Mile Landfill Detailed Design, Mission Flats and Port Clements  with duties ranging from Detailed Design to Project Management.
